This functional unit of the department is responsible for the coordination, planning and execution of the surgical treatment of tumours of the central nervous system, establishing an adequate balance between the best oncological result and the preservation of the patient’s function, conditioned by the preservation of neural tissue with essential functions. This requires a high level of specialisation and technical complexity to differentiate the limits between the tumour and the brain, as well as to locate the neurological structures that must be preserved. The hospital has continuously equipped itself to meet the technical requirements in accordance with the best standards of treatment to achieve the best control of the disease. From the preoperative diagnostic aspects, the possibility of the most precise histological and molecular diagnosis, or the possibility of early and timely coordination of radiotherapy or chemotherapy treatments, to the possibility of offering new treatments in clinical trials.
